A Full Day Of Work For Everyone
Everyone was in action today. The dental and medical teams saw patients all day, beginning at 9 am and ending at 4 pm. The Christian Ed team had more than 40 kids come for crafts, singing, and a lesson. The construction team continued erecting the cinder block walls.
Dentists John Howe, Candace Kann, and Alex Khoury saw almost 40 patients today and performed nearly 100 tooth extractions. In a different setting, most of the patients they saw would simply have had cavities filled, but in Honduras, where the equipment they are able to bring is limited, the only option for their patients is to have the affected teeth pulled to prevent further pain or even life-threatening infections. The doctors and nurses continued to see patients who complained of a variety of ailments, for whom they prescribed the available medications from our pharmacy.
Progress continues on the construction site. Slowly but surely the walls are going up, one block at a time. One of our local foremen, Jose, put on a fantastic display of his musical talents, serenading us with the guitar and the harmonic simultaneously.
The Christian Ed team finally got to spend a day with the local children, who were so excited by the variety of games and activities that they kept wanting more and more! They started by coloring pictures, then sang songs, led by Ashley Astleford, accompanied by Justin Stanton on the guitar. Next they went outside to play games of musical chairs and were treated by Spencer Lengyel to balloon animals and hats.
Spencer's balloon animals are a favorite with the kids no matter where we go. |
